Here at Natura Bissé we want to start the year by congratulating you on having chosen your profession from among all the options there were available. Yes, you read it right. Those of you who work in beauty therapy are the ones who make others happiest. This is a meaningful task and is not without its responsibilities. And we know that, although it is rewarding work, it does mean you have a challenging process each day, both physically and psychologically, as you always try not to show the slightest sign of wear and tear. Mindfulness can help you with this. With practice, you will manage to concentrate for longer, have more energy and exude more joy, even in situations that may seem negative to you.
For one thing, every time you perform The Mindful Touch protocol, you too will be reaping many of the benefits from this technique. But I also want to share 4 single resolutions for the New Year which will help you to become an even more mindful person (and professional).
Ready to take notes?
1. I WILL LEARN TO STOP, BREATHE AND OBSERVE
When you feel that something is worrying or bothering you, take a few moments to simply be present. Stop what you are doing, take several deep breaths and turn your attention to the sensations you notice in your body at that instant. Simply stay still and observe what is happening, without judgement.
2. I WILL SAVOUR THE MOMENT
Enjoy those small pleasures that bring joy to your life: words of gratitude, a hug from someone who loves you, a client’s smile as they leave the salon, a treatment that you particularly enjoy doing… Learn to recognise these moments and, above all, to appreciate their value and be thankful for them.
3. I WILL SET ASIDE TIME TO DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT
For instance, try not to use electronic devices during meals or at night. (You shouldn’t use them 15 minutes before going to sleep or for the first 15 minutes after waking up.)
4. I WILL START WITH ONE MINUTE
Use the small actions you perform each day to exercise full attention, at least for the first minute. This could be washing your hands, talking to a client, preparing the cubicle for a treatment, and so on. You can start with one task and practise it for an entire month to develop the habit. Then move on to another one.
